The Little Crafty Brings Big Creative Energy to the NC Arboretum this February

ArtsAVL, North Carolina Arboretum, and The Big Crafty partner to introduce new craft fair

January 2025 | Building on the success of Trolls: A Field Study, The North Carolina Arboretum, ArtsAVL, and The Big Crafty are excited to announce The Little Crafty, February 7–8—a new, intimate pop-up craft market celebrating regional artists, nature-inspired making, and the creative spirit of Western North Carolina.

“Western North Carolina has a deep tradition of making that’s rooted in the natural world,” said Justin Rabuck of The Big Crafty. “Partnering with the North Carolina Arboretum and ArtsAVL — two organizations whose missions we deeply admire — allows us to spotlight the incredible makers of our region in a setting that reflects the natural inspiration behind so much of their work. As its name suggests, The Little Crafty is intentionally small and deeply curated. It’s intimate, seasonal, and rooted in place, inviting visitors to linger, connect, and discover place-based work through a more personal encounter with artists and their craft.”

Timed perfectly for Valentine’s Day shopping, guests can visit The Little Crafty Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8 from 1-6 p.m. in the Arboretum’s Auditorium.

“In this partnership, The North Carolina Arboretum is excited to pair Thomas Dambo’s artistic whimsy with the talent of Western North Carolina makers,” said Brian Postelle, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for the Arboretum. By hosting our first Little Crafty arts market, the Arboretum aims to encourage creativity, champion regional artists, and ensure access to all with a free Community Day on February 8.”

The Little Crafty will feature a carefully curated group of around 20 artists whose work draws inspiration from the natural world, including botanicals, landscapes, wildlife, and the handmade traditions of the Blue Ridge.

“ArtsAVL’s sponsorship of Trolls: A Field Study and our partnership on The Little Crafty reflect our commitment to connecting people with the artists who shape Western North Carolina’s creative identity,” said Katie Cornell, Executive Director of ArtsAVL. “This pop-up market is a joyful way to support local makers, spark curiosity, and celebrate creativity during the winter season.”
