The long days are here, and Buncombe County’s arts calendar is even longer! Summer stretches across every corner—from riverside studios to hilltop stages, from downtown park concerts to mountain honey festivals—and the lineup this year is as rich and varied as the landscape itself.

North: Weaverville, Woodfin, and North Asheville

This season, the north opens with music, then moves into a festive Fourth to keep the momentum going all summer long.

Now in its 8th year, Weaverville’s one-night open-air concert brings five hours of live music to Main Street alongside food trucks, craft beer, and family-friendly fun. The 2026 lineup includes Cajun fiddle (Jackomo Cajun Country Band), blues-rooted soul (MAMA, fronted by 2025 MerleFest Band Competition winner Melissa McKinney), and southern rock (Holy Roller). Bring lawn chairs; it’s rain or shine.

4th of July Celebration

Weaverville’s beloved Independence Day celebration on Main Street brings the whole community together for live music, family fun, and small-town summer charm. Check the Town of Weaverville’s events page for the full performance lineup and schedule closer to the date.

East: Black Mountain, Swannanoa & East Asheville

From immersive music education programs to honey-soaked street festivals, the east is where mountain tradition and artistic ambition meet.

For nearly 30 years, the Black Mountain Old Depot Association has gathered 50+ local and regional artists on Sutton Avenue for this juried art and craft fair. The event raises funds for arts programming in Swannanoa Valley schools, and the day is filled with live music, handmade work across every medium.

Art in Bloom

Exhibitions and Events Running June and July | Times Vary | Ticketed
Art in Bloom pairs locally created artwork with original floral arrangements to create a singular experience at the intersection of visual art and floral design. The festivities open with First Bloom, a sneak-peek evening on June 18, followed by the gallery exhibit and a self-guided local garden tour with plein air artists painting on location. The 20th anniversary promises to be a landmark celebration; tickets are on sale now.

Groovin’ on Grovemont

This community concert series benefits the Friends of the Swannanoa Library and the Swannanoa Community Council. Each evening features a different musical act alongside chef-prepared food for purchase.

Hellbender by the Orange Peel

Limited Season: July–October 2026 | Ticketed
Built on the site of the former Cursus Keme brewery along the Swannanoa River, Hellbender is the Orange Peel’s long-awaited new outdoor venue: a three-acre riverside concert lawn debuting with a limited 2026 season ahead of a permanent stage opening in Spring 2027. The inaugural summer lineup includes a July 17–18 doubleheader (Band of Horses + Dinosaur Jr.; Watchhouse with Fruit Bats) and the landmark August 1 concert “American Tunes: Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,” curated by Rhiannon Giddens with Mary Chapin Carpenter, Mavis Staples, and Hurray for the Riff Raff.

Park Rhythms

Black Mountain Recreation & Parks’ beloved summer concert series returns to scenic Lake Tomahawk for four free Thursday evening shows. The 2026 lineup is already set, ranging from indie folk to experimental pop to rising indie rock, with a food truck at every show. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, and carpool if you can.

Swannanoa Gathering
Warren Wilson College, Swannanoa

The Swannanoa Gathering is one of the country’s premier folk arts education programs. Each week focuses on a different tradition: old-time, Celtic, dance, hammered dulcimer, guitar, banjo, and more. While the Gathering is primarily a teaching residency, some public concerts and events are open to the community. Visit the Warren Wilson website for the full schedule.

Sourwood Festival
Downtown Black Mountain

Since 1977, this beloved community festival has drawn more than 30,000 visitors to the streets of historic downtown Black Mountain to celebrate the start of the sourwood honey-selling season. Over 200 vendors line the streets with arts, crafts, festival food, and live music. Plus, honey tastings, bee demos, and a sourwood 5K round out the weekend. A free shuttle runs from Ingles on Highway 9.

Wood Day

Part of the Southern Highland Craft Guild’s signature series of craft-focused days at the Folk Art Center, Wood Day shines a spotlight on the woodworking tradition that runs deep in Southern Appalachian craft. Enjoy demonstrations, hands-on engagement with Guild members, and a browse through the Folk Art Center’s renowned shop.

Downtown Asheville

Summer turns downtown Asheville into an open-air cultural experience. There is something here for every taste. Plus, most of it is free!

Presented by Muddy Knees Design and Production, Asheville Art in the Park transforms Pack Square into a thriving handmade marketplace featuring the juried artists and craftspeople from across the region. Each event brings paintings, glass, jewelry, pottery, and more to the heart of downtown.

AVL Sounds Fest (Formerly AVL Fest)

Asheville’s beloved indie music festival returns under a new name for 2026, bringing its signature mix of cross-genre lineups and a strong spotlight on regional artists who’ve earned national attention. AVL Sounds Fest continues the tradition of showcasing discovery-oriented live music. Pre-sale tickets available starting April 15.

The Big Crafty
Harrah’s Cherokee Center, Asheville

The Big Crafty is a hand-to-heart celebration of Asheville’s maker culture at its most exuberant. Around 185 carefully selected artists fill Harrah’s Cherokee Center with work spanning jewelry, ceramics, textiles, illustration, woodwork, and more. Kids attend free, and local food vendors including The Hop and Folk Saints round out the experience.

Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands

Thursday–Sunday, July 16–19, 2026 | 10:00 AM–5:00 PM | $12 adults, children under 12 free The Southern Highland Craft Guild’s flagship summer fair is one of the Southeast’s premier showcases of fine juried craft. More than 100 professional artists from across nine Appalachian states bring their finest work in clay, fiber, wood, glass, metal, leather, jewelry, paper, and mixed media to the two levels of Harrah’s Cherokee Center. Live demonstrations run throughout the weekend, and the Guild’s Emerging Artist Program booths offer a chance to meet rising talent early.

Downtown After 5

Asheville’s favorite free outdoor concert series reaches its summer peak, filling Pack Square Park on three long evenings with live music, food, and community spirit. Drum Circle

One of Asheville’s most enduring community rituals, the Pritchard Park Drum Circle gathers every Friday evening as part of the Asheville Downtown Association’s summer arts programming. Drummers, dancers, and spectators form a circle under the oaks as the rhythm builds. Anyone can join in.

Goombay Festival

Since 1982, the YMI Cultural Center’s Goombay Festival has brought the sights, sounds, and flavors of the African diaspora and Caribbean culture to Pack Square Three days of steel drums, gospel, Afro-Caribbean dance, storytelling, and food from across the diaspora make Goombay a can’t-miss celebration of Black culture and community in Asheville.

Love Shine Play Festival

The Love Shine Play Festival features classes in venues throughout downtown Asheville and an outdoor market at Pack Square Park. You’ll be able to choose from a variety of activities, including yoga classes, meditation, talks, hikes, and more.

Mountain Dance & Folk Festival

Founded in 1928 by Bascom Lamar Lunsford, this three-night indoor celebration fills Asheville High School with the best ballad singers, banjo players, flatfoot dancers, old-time bands, and cloggers from across the Southern Appalachians. Every performer has been selected as a keeper of a living tradition.

As the summer sky darkens over downtown, the city opens Pack Square into an outdoor cinema for family-friendly film screenings on the green. Bring a blanket, pack a picnic, and settle in for a night under the stars. Black Panther, Freakier Friday, and Cars are next in the lineup!

Shindig on the Green

Now in its milestone 60th season, Shindig on the Green remains one of the most beloved summer experiences in Southern Appalachia. Seven Saturday evenings of free outdoor old-time music and mountain dance, both with a formal stage show on the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Stage and informal jam sessions blooming all around the park. Bring your instrument, your dancing shoes, or just a lawn chair and a blanket.

West: River Arts District, West Asheville & Beyond

Summer unlocks something special in the RAD and West Asheville: open studios catch the afternoon light, markets spill into the streets, and the community of makers along the French Broad River invites the community to see what’s being made right now.

The free, self-guided tour takes you to homes and studios of working artists scattered across the hills and hollers of Leicester. Many artists open their personal studios only on this one weekend each year; it’s a uniquely intimate window into a special creative community.

RAD Arts Market

Every second Saturday, Foundy Street fills with original work from RAD artists and makers. Browse paintings, ceramics, jewelry, and sculpture directly from the people who made them, with the French Broad River and the district’s murals as your backdrop. Explore open studios throughout the RAD between booths.

RAD Half Marathon & 10K
Starts at Pack Square Park, finishes in the River Arts District

The RAD Half Marathon & 10K is as much an arts celebration as an athletic event. Saturday’s pre-race weekend includes a Shakeout Run & Studio Stroll and an afternoon RAD Artisan Market. Race day finishes with a post-race party at Hi-Wire Brewing, with live music, a custom finisher medal, and complimentary RAD Half Lager. Proceeds support the RADA Foundation and the district’s ongoing recovery and growth.

South: Biltmore Estate, Biltmore Village & South Asheville

South Asheville anchors the summer with the splendor of Biltmore Estate and a collection of evening concerts and outdoor gatherings that make the most of the long summer light.

Summer transforms the 8,000 acres of Biltmore Estate into a season-long celebration. The estate’s gardens reach their floral peak, and special programs — outdoor evening concerts, the Luminere light experience, and winery events — extend into the long summer evenings.

Arbor Evenings

Sip and stroll through the Arboretum’s gardens as local and regional musicians perform. Running two evenings a week all summer, Arbor Evenings is one of the most consistently lovely ways to spend an evening surrounded by mountain views, rotating food trucks, and neighbors. Concerts in the Park

South Asheville’s Biltmore Park neighborhood hosts this community concert series on summer evenings, drawing residents and visitors together for live music on the green. Bring lawn chairs and settle in for a relaxed, family-friendly gathering. The 2026 schedule will be announced soon!
