Blvck Brilliance: A Celebration of Melanin

Presented by Different Strokes! Performing Arts Collective

BLVCK BRILLIANCE, a unique, and joyful evening-length production is performed by a talented and supercharged cast of local Black dancers and a violinist. This curated evening of soulful expression and story-telling is directed and choreographed by Western North Carolina’s own international dancer and choreographer, Melvin AC Howell. BLVCK BRILLIANCE uses a variety of movement styles and music to celebrate and elaborate not on the trauma and struggles of being Black, but of the strength, resilIence, and pride Black People possess despite those things. Tickets are $20.

For over 25 years, Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center (BMCM+AC) has bridged the history of Black Mountain College with its lasting legacy in Western North Carolina and beyond. Broadcast from the stages, studios, and streets of Asheville, BMC-TV brings together our friends and collaborators who stoke the flames of experimentation sparked at BMC. The Center for Craft has teamed with PechaKucha Asheville to present a program centered on craft. In PechaKucha’s signature 20 images x 20 seconds format, a dynamic lineup of speakers will take to the stage to share stories about significant craft objects and how material knowledge is honed and revealed. Tickets are $10.00.

Symphony in the Park: A Celebration of the Arts

Presented by Asheville Symphony

The Asheville Symphony returns to the stage in September with an orchestral community celebration in Asheville’s beautiful Pack Square Park — a much-anticipated return to live performance in which our entire region can participate. Music includes classical favorites by Gershwin, Brahms, and Copland, Broadway hits by Bernstein and Rodgers & Hammerstein, as well as music from James Bond, Star Wars, and more! This event is free and open to the public.
